According to Tarlac 2nd district Rep. Victor Yap, it is high time to discuss the proposed amendments to the 1987 Constitution given the current world economic landscape.
“More than ever, constructive thoughts about this (economic Cha-Cha) should be proposed and debated,” said Yap, chairman of the House Committee on Information and Communications Technology.
“If other countries including the US have made so many amendments, why not entertain (economic Cha-Cha) at this time when world rules will and have changed dramatically?” the lawmaker asked.
The Committee on Constitutional Amendments is set to tackle on Wednesday Resolution of Both Houses 2 (RBH 2) which proposes amendments to certain economic provisions of the 1987 Constitution, particularly on Articles II, XIV and XVI. Velasco authored and filed the measure back in July, 2019.
Local business leaders urged the Duterte regime on Monday to focus on the recovery of the Philippine economy, as it flagged the timing and push for work towards charter change.
House committee on constitutional amendments chairperson Alfredo Garbin Jr. on Thursday assured the public that the hearings on Charter change (Cha-cha) will not be about amendments on political provisions like term extension for lawmakers.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 16) - The revamp inside the House of Representatives, under the leadership of House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco, continued even on its last session day before adjourning for the Christmas break.
Cavite Rep. Bambol Tolentino and Davao City Rep. Isidro Ungab were elected on Wednesday as deputy speakers, bringing the number to 32.
Following his removal from the post, Defensor slammed Velasco.
“Speaker Lord Velasco is the worse, Defensor said in a statement. He didn’t even have the courtesy to talk with me even as we had a short meeting last week as regards the investigation to be conducted by the Committee on Public Accounts[.] I would not have resisted if he had asked me to give up the position as I have said in the past.”
