The Daily Mail has been told that Conservative Party funds met a large part of the Downing Street makeover bill, which is said to be in the region of £200,000.
Downing Street today dodged questions over the Prime Minister s refurbishment of his official residence after it was revealed he fears the final bill for Carrie Symonds s lavish makeover could be as high as £200,000.
A spokesman for Mr Johnson refused to comment on speculation today after he told aides of his financial worries in crisis meetings on how to pay for his fiancee s refurbishment.
Mr Johnson is believed to have mooted setting up a charity to pay for the extensive work to the accommodation - with several rich Tory donors lined up to make donations.
But a spokesman would today only say: The Downing Street complex is a working building as well as containing two ministerial residences.
