Fernandez: Officials working on details for student SNAP cards

Fernandez: Officials working on details for student SNAP cards By Steve Limtiaco Guam Department of Education Superintendent Jon Fernandez said the school system and Public Health are working on the details for distributing food stamp cards to public school students. The U.S. Department of Agriculture, which provides funding for food stamps, last week approved Guam’s state plan to give as much as $36.7 million in food money to Guam students who missed free school meals during the pandemic lockdown. Each public school student is eligible to receive a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program card worth a total of $1,243.32. The food money comes from the federally funded Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer program, which is intended to help students who missed free meals at school due to the pandemic.
