Cabrillo Unified School District

Why do you want to serve on the CUSD board? I have served as a CUSD board member for the past four years. My children graduated from Half Moon Bay High School. I have the ability to view the K-12 experience for students in its entirety. I would like to be a stable force through the pandemic, instituting routine study sessions that are non-decisional. This would provide uniform information to all board members and the public, improving understanding on complex topics that impact our students. What would be your top priorities if elected? My top priority will be to bridge public education through this pandemic, with a bias toward equity and access to resources for all students. Long- term equitable foundation pieces such as visual and performing arts will improve student performance in all subjects. Timing is right for CUSD to explore use of its surplus land. We must work with Sacramento on a different funding model, to achieve a sustainable base for better teacher pay.

Bunker Hill schools offering telehealth

Bunker Hill schools offering telehealth The Telegraph FacebookTwitterEmail Bunker Hill school nurse Christy Scott works with district students and families through the telehealth program. BUNKER HILL Bunker Hill Community Unit School District No. 8 has brought telehealth services to each of its schools. Partnering with Hazel Health, this remote rural district located in a federal-designated medically deprived area, has taken advantage of advances in technology in order to improve learning conditions for students, as well as healthcare access for all families. The service officially began last week, after an enrollment drive secured approximately 30% of the district’s families to “opt in” to the optional service. While not designed to take the place of a primary care physician, this virtual “doctor on-demand” service occurs in the school during the school day.

Mike Garcia Calls On President Biden To Reopen Schools Statewide

The lawmakers go on to point out in the letter that there are currently nearly ten million fewer jobs in the U.S. than before the pandemic, and that case numbers and hospitalizations continue to drop countrywide.  “By allowing our nation’s schools to remain shuttered, you are depriving these children of the people and support systems they depend on,” the lawmakers wrote. “In addition to the impact of the youth mental health crisis, school closures are increasing education inequality in the United States.” Santa Clarita has made its first steps in an attempt to reopen schools, beginning with the Castaic Union School District (CUSD), which voted to reopen their in-person classes after both state and county health orders allowed it Thursday.

SCVNews.com | CUSD Board Appoints Mayreen Burk as New Board President

The Castaic Union School District governing board appointed a new president during its annual organizational board meeting last month. The board voted to appoint Mayreen Burk, representative for Trustee Area E, as CUSD board president for the 2021 year, which was previously held by Fred Malcomb, representative for Trustee Area C. “I look forward to working as a board to focus on student achievement. I know we all look forward to having all of our students back on campus as soon as it is safe to do so,” Burk said. “We will also be focused on providing the social and emotional support our students and staff will need this year as we continue with distance learning and when we are able bring all students back on campus. This has been an extraordinarily tough year, and we want to make sure everyone gets the support they need.”
