Following the Capitol riots in January, Paxton announced he was investigating Google, Facebook, Twitter, Amazon Web Services and Apple for the “seemingly coordinated de-platforming of the President of the United States and several leading voices.” As part of the investigation, Paxton sought documents regarding each of the companies’ “policies and practices regarding content moderation.”

This harms consumers, the states claim, because they end up missing out on the best deals possible. “For decades, Google has served as the gatekeeper of the internet and has weaponized our data to kill off competitors and control our decision making,” New York Attorney General Letitia James tweeted. “While Google continues to make billions in profits, we’re all paying more for the services we use every day.”
