Members of the police and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) fired more than 15 rounds in “self defence” at two polling booths in a span of two hours at Cooch Behar’s Sitalkuchi Assembly constituency in West Bengal, killing four persons on Saturday.
After Cooch Behar violence, EC directs Home Ministry to deploy 71 more CAPF companies in West Bengal
Following the outbreak of violence in the Sitakulchi assembly seat in West Bengal s Cooch Behar district, the Election Commission (EC) directed the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to immediately deploy 71 additional CAPF companies.

The Election Commission (EC) on Saturday directed the Union Home Ministry to deploy 71 additional companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) in West Bengal for the conduct of the remaining four phases of the state assembly poll, following the first major outbreak of violence during the West Bengal assembly elections, in which five people were killed, including four in a firing incident in Cooch Behar s Sitalkuchi assembly seat.
