Alliance firefighters coordinated with the University of Mount Union to collect hundreds of blankets for people in need this winter.
Donations were amassed at the fire stations on East Broadway Street and South Union Avenue and in boxes located throughout Mount Union s campus from Nov. 9 to Dec. 18. On Friday, the blankets collected at Mount Union were brought to the station on East Broadway Street.
Alliance Firefighter and Project Warm Blanket Coordinator Chris Waffler said the blankets will be distributed to domestic violence shelters and families in need in the Alliance area. Additionally, he said some blankets will be kept on the firetrucks so that firefighters can hand them out if they notice people who may need them while driving through the city.
