New Delhi, Jan 29 : The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has strongly criticised the Karnataka Government for entering into an MOU with tainted e-commerce company Amazon to help drive e-commerce exports from the State. We strongly object to this MOU of Karnataka Government with Amazon which is facing probe by law enforcing agencies and also facing court cases out of which one in Karnataka High Court, for charges of engaging into mal-practices, destroying competition and killing the small retailers of the country with its sinister designs of policies for controlling not only the e-commerce but retail trade of the Country as well, said CAIT.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has initiated a probe against e-commerce giant Amazon for alleged violation of the foreign exchange law and rules of the country, official sources said on Thursday. The probe is being conducted under various sections of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) after the central probe agency recently received a communication from the Commerce Ministry seeking necessary action against e-commerce players like Amazon and Flipkart pertaining to certain multi-brand retail businesses and an observation made by the Delhi High Court in relation to Amazon.

Traders body CAIT has written to Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal accusing Amazon, Flipkart, Zomato, Swiggy, and various other e-commerce entities for allegedly flouting rules, and demanded immediate action against them. Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal said that Rule 10 of Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, provides that e-commerce entities have to display details of the manufacturer, country of origin and common/generic name of the product, MRP, and dimensions of the commodity, among others.
