She announced over Facebook she’s been accepted to the University of Saskatchewan to study law, a passion she claims to have had for years. Whether classes are in-person or online, Balsom tells Mix News she isn’t planning on out-right leaving the community. “I will be in the community as much as possible but I will attend classes out in Saskatoon if necessary.”

City Council Rescinds Nomination for Darren Hill to Run in FCM Election

By Brad Jennings May 10, 2021 | 7:17 PM Saskatoon City Council has chosen to rescind a nomination for Councillor Darren Hill to run in an election for the board of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. Hill currently serves as the second vice-president of the FCM Board of Directors Councillor Marin Loewen says the representative to that board should be able to fulfill the roles and expectations of that role.  “The President of FCM has written a letter outlining serious concerns with patterns of behavior, that he has observed from Councillor Hill and the impacts of these behaviors they have had on governance and the staff.”  Loewen says these are concerns they are taking seriously and says based off the information that council has it was the most responsible decision.

Saskatoon city council withdraws support of Darren Hill to run in FCM election

Saskatoon / 650 CKOM May 11, 2021 | 2:07 PM Ward 1 councillor Darren Hill will not be able to run in the next Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) election after Saskatoon city council voted 10-1 to withdraw support for his nomination at a special city council meeting held late Monday afternoon. During the meeting, Coun. Mairin Loewen referenced a letter written to Saskatoon Mayor Charlie Clark by FCM board of directors president Garth Frizzell. The contents of the letter were not divulged publicly, but references to it were made repeatedly during the meeting. She said the FCM was an important strategic partner for the City of Saskatoon and that council had an obligation to ensure its representative is able to fulfil the role and the expectations of the role.

Plans for Cornwall sewage plant to take household organic waste

(Newswatch Group/File) CORNWALL – The city is looking at a plan for the Cornwall Waste Water Treatment Plant to process organic waste separated by residents from their regular weekly trash. Infrastructure and Municipal Works Acting Division Manager Carl Goodwin will present the findings of two studies on equipping the plant on Montreal Road to process organics at a city council meeting tonight (Monday). The studies have taken almost two years to complete. Designing and engineering 30 per cent of the project would cost around $50,000 and could be partially subsidized by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. The actual co-digestion setup will be far more expensive although actual figures were not provided in Goodwin’s report.
