The government has said the supply chain s materials crisis is not currently an issue for major projects including High Speed 2 (HS2) and East West Rail. Responding to a written parliamentary question, HS2 minister Andrew Stephenson emphasised that construction material availability is “regularly reviewed” by HS2 Ltd, Network Rail, East West Rail and the Department for Transport (DfT). He said: “Our latest assessments do not currently predict an impact on the cost and schedule ranges, published in the HS2 March 2021 Parliamentary Report, or Network Rail’s Control Period Budget, or those currently estimated by East West Rail Ltd.” The latest  Monthly Statistics of Building Materials and Components report, compiled by the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy, says that imports of construction materials has decreased by £294M in the first quarter of 2021 compared to the previous quarter, a decrease of 6%.
