Adviser for prioritising regulatory reforms to benefit businesses

ISLAMABAD: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Institutional Reforms and Austerity Ishrat Husain underscored need of a strategy that prioritises identification of high impact regulations that will have visible benefits for the business community.
Husain was addressing the fifth steering committee meeting on Pakistan Regulatory Modernization Initiative (PRMI) to review progress on implementation of regulatory reforms by provinces and review of regulatory guillotine activity.
Adviser to the PM on Commerce and Investment expressed satisfaction with performance of stakeholders and recommended a reservoir of implemented reforms should be formulated.
The committee expressed resolve to expedite the ongoing regulatory journey.
The business community has urged the government to accelerate agriculture growth by focusing on enhancing the per acre yield because import of just three main crops cost nearly $2 billion in foreign payments from July-February of the ongoing fiscal year.

The textile sector has voiced fear of losing export orders due to unavailability of cotton yarn and fluctuations in the rupee-dollar parity.
In a statement on Monday, Pakistan Apparel Forum Chairman Jawed Bilwani said that unavailability of cotton yarn and abrupt decrease in the value of rupee against the US dollar can collapse efforts made by the value-added garment and home textile segments.
Ziaul Haq Sarhadi retains FPCCI seat

PESHAWAR: A known businessman from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ziaul Haq Sarhadi has been re-elected as convener of the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Standing Committee on Railways.
The FPCCI President Naseer Hayat Maggo issued a notification in this regard, said a press release on Friday.
Ziaul Haq remained the convener for the committee last year as well. Because of his vast experience in Afghan Transit Trade and Customs Clearance, he has worked on different forums for the promotion of commerce and trade in the region.
He has served as vice-president of the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry and senior vice-president of Pak-Afghan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
