The Lahore police have registered cases against 500 students after their protest outside the University of Central Punjab turned violent on Tuesday. The FIRs were registered on the basis of the statement of the varsity’s Chief Security Officer Naveed Mukhtar by the Nawab Town police. Mukhtar said that the university administration requested the students to call off the protest. At 2pm, the students were incited by a man identified as Zubair Siddiqui and they attacked all the gates of the campus. The protesters held the security guards hostage, broke the windows, and vandalised the furniture at the university, some students entered the campus by climbing the walls near the hoste.

The Higher Education Commission has been instructed to consult with the vice-chancellors of varsities over the matter of online examinations, Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood said.
In a series of tweets on Monday, he said that the decision regarding examinations lies under the domain of the universities. But I have asked HEC to consult VCs and see if it is possible given special circumstances this year.

Police in Lahore baton-charged and detained dozens of students in a bid to disperse them from outside the University of Central Punjab (UCP), where they were protesting against the latter’s decision to conduct on-campus exams.
Students have been staging protests outside the campus for the last two days in favour of online exams, saying that their classes were also held online as the educational institutions remained closed due to coronavirus pandemic throughout the year.
A formal approval to promote more than 1,600 teachers of educational institutions and model colleges under the federal government was given on Tuesday.
