In an effort to address workforce shortages and boost a full economic recovery, state labor officials plan to end Georgia’s participation in federal pandemic unemployment programs, effective June 26. Governor Jon Husted provided the following updates Thursday on Ohio s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  OHIO VAX-A-MILLION: In Wednesday s statewide evening address, Governor DeWine detailed a series of statewide drawings to provide incentives for Ohioans to get a COVID-19 vaccination. Ohioans aged 18 and older will be entered into Ohio Vax-a-Million, a weekly drawing with a prize of up to $1 million.  The pool of names for the Ohio Vax-a-Million drawing will be derived from the Ohio Secretary of State s publicly available voter registration database. Additionally, a webpage will be available to register.

U.S. President Joe Biden on Monday defended himself against critics who say expanded unemployment benefits offered in the COVID-19 relief bill passed in March are keeping Americans from taking new jobs. Kristi Noem and the Department of Labor and Regulation announced Wednesday that South Dakota will end its participation in the federal government’s pandemic-related unemployment assistance programs effective June 26. South Dakota will continue to pay regular state claims. “Businesses across the state continue to say they would grow and expand if it wasn’t for the lack of workers. Help wanted signs line our streets,” state Labor and Regulation Secretary Marcia Hultman said in a press release. “South Dakota is and has been ‘Open for Business.’ Ending these programs is a necessary step towards recovery, growth, and getting people back to work.”
