SON destroys N2m expired, substandard goods in Niger

Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) on Tuesday destroyed expired and substandard products worth N2 million in Niger toward safeguarding the public health. x Hajiya Hauwa Nuhu, State Coordinator, SON, disclosed this during the exercise in Maikunkele, near Minna. “The products before you have been marked for destruction because after we carried out our laboratory tests, we found out that they were expired or substandard. “The goods are estimated at N2 million going by their current market value,” she said. Nuhu stated that the products were not safe for consumption or use, depending on the item.

FRSC Blames Motorcycle, Tricycle Accidents On Riders Impatience, Illiteracy

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) –  The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has identified illiteracy and impatience by riders as the major causes of motorcycle and tricycle accidents in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The FRSC Sector Commander in the FCT, Mr Samuel Ochi stated  on Tuesday in Abuja that Okada and Keke NAPEP riders had low level of education. According to Ochi, the riders have little knowledge of road code. He, however, said that the corps would address road crashes involving tricycles and motorcycles from “different dimensions’’. Ochi said that although they were supposed to operate at the outskirts, many of them had moved into the city centre, causing accidents because of their recklessness.

The FRSC Sector Commander, Mr Samuel Ochi, confirmed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Monday in Abuja. x Ochi said that the operation RAID was to ensure that all offenders committing critical traffic offences such as overloading, driving against traffic, beating of traffic light, among others, were brought to book. He explained that recalcitrant offenders were those that have been been arrested for the same offences several times but were not willing to change.
