Train derails in Kaduna

A train loaded with water pipes from Lagos to Zaria has derailed in Kaduna, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
NAN gathered that no one was injured in the accident which occurred at about 5:50 p.m. on Saturday around Unguwar Kanawa axis, opposite Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna.
“There was no casualty and no property damaged”, Kaduna State Police Command Spokesman, Mohammed Jalige, told NAN.
“The train developed some faults and derailed, it was on transit from Lagos to Zaria.
“We have deployed our operatives to secure the place and protect the pipes,” Mr Jalige added.

LAGOS, May 2 (Xinhua) Nigeria s road safety police on Sunday confirmed at least eight people were killed in a fatal accident in the southwest state of Osun.
Thirty-six others were injured following the accident on Saturday along the Osogbo-Gbongan expressway in the state, said Kudirat Ibrahim, a commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in a statement reaching Xinhua on Sunday.
Ibrahim said the accident, which involved 61 persons, occurred after a truck loaded with palm oil, lost control on an overhead bridge along the expressway. The vehicle, which was heavily loaded with jerry cans of palm oil and over 60 passengers, was trying to ascend the ramp, she said.
No fewer than eight passengers, yesterday, were feared dead, while scores sustained varying degrees of injuries in a truck accident that occurred in Osogbo, Osun State.
The Volvo FL7 truck with registration number KMC 35 ZJ, was said to have lost control while plying the November 27 Crossover Bridge, Osogbo, around 1.20 a.m.
The Guardian learnt the driver lost control, probably due to overloading, as the truck carried palm oil and kola nuts. x
The vehicle was transporting the goods to the North with 61 passengers, including the driver.
When The Guardian visited the scene at 10.30a.m., palm oil had spilled on the ground, while gallons littered the busy road.
