8 dead, 36 injured in truck accident in Osun

Eight persons were reported dead in Osogbo, Osun State capital on Saturday as a truck loaded with traders and palm oil somersaulted while ascending a bridge.
It was gathered that the truck, which was coming from Gbongan towards Osogbo around 1:30 am, attempted to join the Oba Adesoji Aderemi intersection at November 27 interchange, the truck while accelerating onto the bridge slid backward.
The driver, according to eye witness Babawale Adigun, eventually lost control of the truck and it somersaulted into the side drainage.
“The people in the truck were sleeping when it fell off the road and the palm oil gallon fell on them after they had fallen into the drainage.

Eight lives were lost on Saturday in Osogbo when a truck conveying kegs of palm oil and 61 passengers, ascending a bridge along Osogbo/Gbongan Road, lost control and fell into a drainage.
In the accident that occurred around 1.20am, 36 passengers were said to have been injured with many kegs of palm oil destroyed.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Osun says eight persons have lost their lives following an accident that occurred on the Gbongan-Osogbo expressway.
The Sector Commander, Kudirat Ibrahim, made this known in a statement issued by Agnes Ogungbemi, the command’s spokesperson, in Osogbo.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the accident occurred at 1:20 a.m., on Saturday, opposite Ataoja Overhead bridge, along Abere, Osogbo-Gbongan expressway.
Mr Ibrahim said 36 others sustained various degrees of injuries in the lone accident, in which 61 persons were involved.
“An articulated vehicle, a blue truck Volvo with number plate KMC 35 ZJ, loaded with Palm oil, lost control on the Ataoja-overhead bridge.

Ogungbemide made the call when the Transport Correspondents Association of Nigeria (TCAN), Lagos chapter, visited the command at Ojodu in Lagos on Thursday.
