BOISE â The Idaho State Board of Education is working to build awareness about a new Federal Communications Commission (FCC) program to help lower the cost of broadband service to eligible households during the pandemic.
The FCCâs Emergency Broadband Benefit program provides a discount of up to $50 per month toward broadband service for eligible households and up to $75 per month for households on qualifying Tribal lands.
âWe made great progress last year to close the âdigital divideâ in our state after our schools transitioned to remote learning as a result of the pandemic,â State Board President Kurt Liebich said. âThis program can potentially help us close the gap further and we want to make sure parents are aware of it.â

New federal initiative can save eligible Vermonters up to $50 on high-speed internet
Vermont Business Magazine AARP Vermont is encouraging residents who are without access to high-speed internet, or struggling to afford it, to look into the recently launched Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB) program.
The EBB is a $3.2 billion Federal Communications Commission (FCC) program to help Americans access the affordable, high-speed internet they need during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The pandemic has shown our reliance on high-speed internet,” said Greg Marchildon, AARP Vermont state director. “But too many Vermonters are being left behind. Patients navigating telehealth, students learning remotely, and loved ones staying connected with family members by video chat are only a few of the critical tasks that require a high-speed connection.”
