Utica nursing homes begin administering coronavirus vaccines to residents, staff

UTICA, N.Y. – The Mohawk Valley has 32 nursing homes enrolled in the Federal Nursing Home Vaccination Program, and two of them have already started administering doses.
Mohawk Valley Health System was one of the first in the state to begin giving vaccines this week, through a partnership with Walgreens.
A total of 100 residents and 100 staff members at the MVHS Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, formerly St. Luke’s Home, received the shots on Monday.

ALBANY, N.Y. – The Mohawk Valley had the highest COVID-19 positivity rate in the state Monday, according to statistics reported by the New York State Department of Health.
The Mohawk Valley’s positivity rate tops other regions at 8.46%, followed by the Finger Lakes, at 8.28%. When you look at the positivity it s Finger Lakes and it s Mohawk Valley, and those are the problem areas that we re focusing on now. This is the ongoing COVID whack-a-mole: you bring it down in one region it pops up in another, and that s what we ve been dealing with, said Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
