MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - COVID-19 vaccinations will begin this week at Alabamaâs state veterans homes.
The first round of vaccines will be administered Tuesday to residents and staff at the Bill Nichols State Veterans Home in Alexander City.
Vaccinations will continue over the next two weeks at the following homes:

The Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs announced Monday that coronavirus vaccinations will begin Tuesday for about 468 residents and 850 staff members.
The first immunizations of the Pfizer vaccine will be administered to residents and staff at the Bill Nichols State Veterans Home in Alexander City on Tuesday, according to the department.
They begin at Floyd E. ‘Tut’ Fann State Veterans Home on Thursday, at William F. Green State Veterans Home on Jan. 7, and at Colonel Robert L. Howard State Veterans Home on Jan. 11.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - Veterans in Alabama will soon receive the long-awaited COVID-19 vaccine.
Alabama’s four state Veterans home are expected to get the first round of the COVID vaccine beginning this week, according to the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs.
On that list is Huntsville’s own, Floyd E. ‘Tut’ Fann State Veterans Home. Residents and staff at Tut Fann are expecting to receive the Pfizer vaccine on Dec. 31st.
Now, the vaccine is headed their way.
“For several weeks our health care team has worked with the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) in scheduling the vaccinations for our veteran-residents and staff. Our medical staff at the state veterans homes is prepared to administer the first and subsequent rounds of the vaccine beginning tomorrow,” said Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Kent Davis.
CVS, Walgreens to start administering Pfizer-BioNTech COVID vaccines at Massachusetts long-term care facilities this week

More than 150,000 residents of long-term care facilities in Massachusetts are expected to soon receive their coronavirus vaccines, officials said.
Starting Monday, CVS Health will travel to roughly 2,000 long-term care facilities across the Bay State to vaccinate around 173,000 people, according to a statement from the company. Teams from Walgreens are also expected to administer doses at several locations.
The federal government will supply the doses of the vaccine for use among residents and staff at long-term care facilities, a CVS spokesperson said.
The virus has led to more than 330,000 deaths in the United States and has hit elderly demographics the hardest.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey received the first of two doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine on Monday afternoon at Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery. Registered Nurse Donna Pugh administered the shot.
Ivey praised the scientists, medical professionals and the Trump administration for their commitment to creating and distributing a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine. State Health Officer Dr. Scott Harris and State Chief Health Medical Officer Dr. Mary McIntyre also received a dose of the vaccine.
