Iowa Truck Drivers Are Eligible For Refunds Of Fraudulently Collected Fee

Any Iowa truck drivers who paid a $149 fee to a Texas company for submission of federal documents that could have been filed for free are due a refund. Iowa Attorney General, Tom Miller, says Compliance Processing Group, LLC of Frisco, Texas had sent past-due notices to Iowa truck drivers under the name FMCSA Compliance Processing Group. These letters warned truckers that if they did not immediately contact them, they risked fines of up to $10,000 per day and that they would be put out of service per the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Their mailers deceptively implied it came from a government agency and that civil penalties would accompany any failure to respond. Biden announces nominee for FMCSA boss Meera Joshi, who has served as the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s acting administrator since the Biden administration took office in January, is the president’s nominee to head up the agency that oversees the trucking industry. FMCSA Acting Administrator Meera JoshiJoshi was one of 10 nominations announced by the White House Wednesday to fill posts at various agencies related to climate and transportation. If confirmed by the Senate, Joshi will be the first person to hold the title of FMCSA Administrator since Ray Martinez left the post in 2019. Jim Mullen served as acting administrator after Martinez left. When Mullen retired from the agency last summer, Wiley Deck led the agency as deputy administrator from September until Jan. 20.
