Muhammad Irshad was convicted of kidnapping six-year-old Tajalli and then strangling her to death after he subjected her to rape in Gulistan-e-Jauhar 14 years ago. Model Criminal Court East judge Haleem Ahmed awarded capital punishment to Irshad on three counts while pronouncing the verdict reserved after recording evidences and the final arguments from both sides.
According to the prosecution, Tajalli had gone missing on October 9, 2006 after she had stepped out of her house. Her friend told the victimâs parents that Irshad had asked Tajalli to come in the evening to an open plot where he would give her toys.

A model court in Karachi sentenced a man to death on Monday, after finding him guilty of abducting, raping and killing a six-year-old girl in 2006.
Muhammad Irshad had abducted the minor girl from Gulistan-i-Jauhar and subjected her to rape before strangulating her to death.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Haleem Ahmed of the model criminal trial court (East) announced the verdict, which had earlier been reserved, after recording evidence and final arguments from both sides.
The judge handed down the death sentence to Irshad on three counts. The convict, who was produced during the hearing, was remanded to the prison to serve his sentence.

The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has sought additional information from the people nominated to be appointed to the Lahore High Court (LHC) as additional judges in order to assess their competence and in a bid to make the judges appointment process more effective.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed has summoned a meeting of the JCP on January 12 to review credentials of the 16 people nominated by LHC Chief Justice Qasim Muhammad Khan. Out of the 16 nominees, 13 are lawyers and three are sessions court judges.
