Edison State accounting students look to gain hands-on experience preparing taxes

PIQUA – This semester, students in Edison State Community College’s accounting program will prepare taxes as part of a service-learning project at the Partners In Hope site location for the community-at-large, in partnership with the Dayton Coalition Program (VITA/EITC).
VITA’s origins date back to 1969 with a precursor program at California State University, Northridge. Such programs have since spread to thousands of locations across the country, with IRS-certified volunteers providing free help with tax returns to low- and moderate-income taxpayers, as well as people with disabilities, the elderly and limited English speakers.
You Did It: $302,725 For St. Jude’s
We are extremely thankful for all of you whom stepped up to the plate the past 2 days, became Partners In Hope and supported the cause for St. Jude. All of the money raised means that the families of children who have been diagnosed with cancer will never have to worry about receiving a bill from St. Jude.
With your support, we were able to raise $302,725! We know that this year might have been more difficult than previous years to give, but please know that your support goes a long way in making things just a little bit easier during some of the hardest times for these children and families.

This year must have been one of the hardest St. Jude families have ever had to endure.
Not only are they dealing with their child s life potentially hanging in the balance due to childhood cancer, but now they even have to worry about their other children that don t have cancer potentially becoming infected with the coronavirus. Imagine dealing with that kind of anxiety every single day. For St. Jude families, that s been their life ever since the pandemic began.

It s an unimaginable time when you re solely focusing on getting your child better from cancer, but combining it with the threat of COVID-19? Unfathomable. The St. Jude families, especially the moms and dads, are true inspirations. The strength they have and the hope and faith they ve placed in the doctors and nurses during this time is, truly, a beautiful thing.
Why Should You Support St. Jude? An Acadiana Mother Explains
Every year during the St. Jude Radiothon, we try to help tell the stories of the many families in Acadiana that have had first-hand experiences with St. Jude Children s Research Hospital. We re of course talking about families that have had kids treated at the hospital in Memphis.
Over the years, our hearts have collectively broken together when we ve lost a child from cancer or another catastrophic disease. We raise money in their honor. We never forget them.
We are also so very proud of the children that St. Jude has saved. Those babies eventually grow up to be Mommas and Daddys and wonderful pillars of our community. We do this for them as well.
