Top Russian, Armenian diplomats sign biological safety memorandum

Read also YEREVAN, May 6. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Armenian counterpart Ara Ayvazyan signed on Thursday an intergovernmental memorandum on biological safety. Today we signed an intergovernmental memorandum on biological safety. Its implementation is expected to make a substantial contribution to the further development of cooperation in this sensitive and increasingly topical area and will help strengthen our common biological safety space, Russia’s top diplomat told reporters at a news conference. According to Lavrov, Moscow and Yerevan will promote this topical issue within the framework of multilateral organizations, including the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

US Afghan Envoy Visits Uzbekistan, Tajikistan

Advertisement U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad is making early May rounds in Central Asia, with visits to Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. The trips come as the United States begins its final withdrawal from Afghanistan, planned to be completed by September 11, 2021 the 20-year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.  As the withdrawal proceeds, questions remain about how the United States will, as Biden stated in his announcement on April 14, “reorganize” its “counterterrorism capabilities and the substantial assets in the region to prevent reemergence of terrorists of the threat to our homeland from over the horizon.”
