SUNNYVALE, Calif. A California man has been charged with killing his wife and 11-year-old daughter after he walked into a police station this week and confessed to the crime, investigators say.
Sunnyvale resident, Leonid Yamburg, was “immediately detained by officers” following his admission Wednesday, according to the city’s Department of Public Safety.
“This is a horrific tragedy and our hearts are broken for the victims, the victim’s families and the victim’s friends,” the department said in a statement.
According to law enforcement authorities, Yamburg, 51, first entered the police department and “told a records clerk he killed his wife.” As a result, officers responded to Yamburg’s home to confirm his confession. Upon arrival they discovered bodies of a woman, identified as Svetlana Nikitina, and the man’s 11-year-old daughter, the statement added.
CUSD board set to vote on parcel tax this week

The Cupertino Union School District Board of Education is set to vote Thursday (Jan. 21) on whether to place a parcel tax before voters this spring.
The proposed measure would levy a $398 tax on each parcel of land within the district, which would raise roughly $14 million annually for eight years. The board is scheduled to vote on whether to put the measure on a May 4 ballot.
The new tax would replace the existing $250 Measure A parcel tax, an increase of $148 per parcel. The new $398 parcel tax would take effect July 1 and expire in eight years. It would require two-thirds voter support to pass.

Leonid Yamburg walked to the front doors of the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety Wednesday afternoon. Unable to enter the lobby due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bay Area News Group first reported, he spoke to a records clerk on a phone outside the lobby.
According to police, he told the government employee that he killed his wife, Svetlana Nikitina. The 51-year-old software engineer was promptly detained.
Montclaire offers new-parent info night
Montclaire Elementary School is scheduled to host its annual kindergarten and new-parent information meeting 7-8:30 p.m. Monday (Jan. 11) via Zoom.
Parents interested in registering their students for the 2021-2022 school year will have the opportunity to hear from students and staff and learn more about Montclaire, a public elementary school in south Los Altos that is part of the Cupertino Union School District.
The priority registration window for the 2021-2022 school year will run from Monday through Feb. 10.
