A 58-year-old man has appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrate s Court in connection with the discovery of a huge consignment of mandrax tablets worth R10.7 million last year, which was destined for Cape Town.
The court granted Ah Kin Geemooi R50 000 bail after he handed himself over to authorities on Wednesday.
Hawks spokesperson Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu said the Hawks in Germiston received a call from the management of the warehouse about suspicious cargo that had been delivered for shipment. Authorities inspected the cargo and found 268 000 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R10.7 million wrapped in brown boxes.

Police members of Highway patrol arrested two suspects for possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, impersonating police official, and fraud on R25 road on the 27th May 2021.
It is alleged that the police members were patrolling on R25 road when they noticed a white VW polo stationed along the side of the road. When they approached it they noticed three people wearing Gauteng police uniform. When the police inquiry them about their duties, one of them ran away and it was noticed that they are not law enforcement members, their vehicle was searched and 9mm Norinco pistol with no filed-off serial number was found, and seven live ammunition. The two were arrested and detained in Kempton Park SAPS.

Justice Minister Ronald Lamola has failed to respond to calls by civil society protesters to extradite the former Mozambican finance minister, Manuel Chang, to stand trial in the United States on charges of fraud and accepting bribes.
Chang has been in custody in South Africa since December 2018, when he was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport on his way to Dubai.

Two Hawks officials have been arrested after they allegedly defrauded the police by submitting fictitious invoices.
The arrested officials were recently promoted to sergeants at the Serious Corruption Offences units in Pretoria and Ivory Park.
Investigations revealed that most of the guesthouse invoices the suspects submitted allegedly did not exist.
