The Race report that since both Alfa Romeo and Maserati have been brought under Stellantis, a union of the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and PSA groups, both brands could see a shift to their programmes in the near future. Alfa Romeo are currently in Formula 1 alongside Sauber Motorsport, with the terms of their deal meaning the team have been known as Alfa Romeo since 2019. That relationship has only been extended for 2021 though, which means Alfa Romeo are not yet committed to Formula 1’s new regulations coming in for 2022.

Although last year Formula 1 opted to delay the introduction of a new aerodynamic package until 2022, the sport’s bosses agreed that the proposed budget cap would still come into effect. That means this season the teams can only spend $145 million, which will drop to $140 million for 2022 and $135 million for 2023-2025.

The Spanish arm of Motorsport.com state that February 22 will be the date when Alfa Romeo give us the first sighting of their car to contest the 2021 campaign. The reveal is going to take place in the Polish city of Warsaw, which is not a huge surprise considering Alfa Romeo’s title sponsor is Orlen, also the main sponsor of their 2020 reserve driver Robert Kubica. Alfa Romeo are one of a limited number of teams expected to present their 2021 challengers before the beginning of pre-season testing, largely due to the global travel restrictions in place as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
