Students in the Russellville Independent school system will get a chance to redo the current school year if they so desire.
On Tuesday, the Russellville Independent Board of Education unanimously voted to approve the allowance of the supplemental school year as provided by Senate Bill 128 (SB 128).
The bill allows for students currently enrolled in grades K-12 to take part in a âdo-overâ year during the 2021-22 school year. The board approved the Supplemental School Year Program (SSYP) after extensive investigation and consultation with multiple professional organizations including the Kentucky School Board Association (KSBA), the Kentucky Association of School Administrators (KASA), the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA), and the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA).

The state champion Somerset High School cheerleading squad celebrates after their title was won Thursday. Â Submitted
Hip-hip-hooray for Somerset High School s cheerleaders!
The independent city school s squad won a state title on Thursday in the 2021 KHSAA (Kentucky High School Athletic Association) State Cheer Championships. They were ecstatic, said coach Elizabeth Bruner of the girls on the squad. They were super excited (to win).
It s not the first state title for Somerset s cheerleaders â they won in the Small Varsity division in 2011 and for the 2012-13 season â but this win was unique. You have to declare which division you re going to compete in, said Bruner â whether it s a traditional 2.5-minute routine, which is commonly what s seen during cheerleading competitions, or Game Day, which are the kinds of things cheerleader

The Pulaski County Board of Education is moving ahead with plans to accommodate students seeking a supplemental school year.
In their regular meeting on Tuesday evening, school board members approved the requests of 263 students districtwide. Basically the board has to approve or not approve all requests, Pulaski Schools Superintendent Patrick Richardson noted before making his recommendation to approve. It s an all or none situation.
