A RETIRED GARDA superintendent, two serving garda sergeants, and two servinging gardaí are to face trials, after they were each charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice before Limerick District Court.
The investigation, into alleged wrongdoing by garda members in the Southern region, is being led by the Dublin-based Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (GNBCI), under the direction of Detective Chief Superintendent Walter O’Sullivan.

A retired Garda superintendent, two sergeants, and two gardai, are to face trials, after they were charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice before Limerick District Court this morning.
The five accused were charged with a total of 42 offences in respect of alleged road traffic fixed charge penalty notices.
These include alleged offences against parties, including a number of well known sporting and media figures, and cover alleged speeding, failing to produce insurance, holding a mobile phone while driving, failing to wear a seatbelt, and driving without insurance.

It s understood one of the accused is now with the Kerry Garda Division, having previously been stationed in the Limerick Garda District.

Nearly 450 fines have been issued in Kerry for breaches of COVID-19 regulations.
An Garda Siochana has released information on fines issued by members, relating to the breaching of travel restrictions, organising and attending events, not wearing face coverings and leaving home without a reasonable excuse.
Nationally, three in every four offenders were male, with over half of the fines given to people aged 18-25.

In the Kerry Garda Division, since the laws were brought in, gardaí have issued 449 fines, from a national total of over 21,000.
