Researchers tracked 3,030 people during the pandemic, in a nationally representative study, analysing the reasons why people are willing to be vaccinated against COVID-19, and attitudes toward vaccination. “Young women were less willing than other groups to receive the vaccine,” study lead, Dr Diana Cardenas, said. “More than half of Australia’s young men, aged 18 – 24, are keen to get vaccinated as soon as possible – 62 per cent – compared to 43 per cent of young women the same age.”

The prime minister, Scott Morrison, told reporters on Thursday he expected to receive updated advice “later this evening” - but he did not foreshadow any plans to change the vaccine rollout which is heavily reliant on locally-produced AstraZeneca doses. Morrison said there was no advice to suggest there would be any change to the rollout, given Australia was currently focused on the 1B population group, the majority of whom were older Australians.

Researchers from Australian National University (ANU) published the latest edition of the survey that has tracked the experiences and attitudes of 3,030 Australians during the pandemic, reports Xinhua news agency. It found that only 43 per cent of women aged 18 to 24 said they were willing to get vaccinated as soon as possible compared to 63 per cent of the rest of the population.
