Hickory police say 23-year-old Douglas Mason Wilson of Claremont is now charged with murder and in custody. Online jail records also indicate he was charged for possession of marijuana.

(WBTV) - A 7-year-old boy was fatally shot while riding in a car with his mother and two other children in Hickory Wednesday night. The shooting happened around 11:12 p.m. on Tate Boulevard SE near 19th Street SE. Police say 7-year-old Zakylen Greylen Harris’s mother was driving when someone shot into the car, killing Harris. A 1-year-old and a 6-year-old were also in the car.

The other two cases Wednesday in Shelby and Tuesday in Apex resulted in children being hospitalized with serious injuries, officials say. Hickory police identified the latest victim as Zakylen Greylen Harris, who died at Catawba Valley Medical Center. The shooting happened around 11:12 p.m. Wednesday in the 1900 block of Tate Boulevard, a commercial area in southeast Hickory, police said in a release. Hickory is about 55 miles northwest of Charlotte.

Seven-Year-Old Dies As Result Of Shooting, Hickory PD Investigating Seven-Year-Old Dies As Result Of Shooting, Hickory PD Investigating April 22, 2021 A fatal shooting is under investigation by the Hickory Police Department. Yesterday at 11:12 p.m., the Catawba County 911 Center received a call of a shooting into an occupied vehicle. The incident occurred at the 1900 block of Tate Boulevard SE. Catawba County EMS, Hickory Fire and Hickory Police responded. Upon arrival, officers discovered that seven-year-old Zakylen Greylen Harris had an apparent gunshot wound to the neck area. Harris was transported to Catawba Valley Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased. The vehicle was being driven by the child’s mother and there were also two other children in the vehicle at the time of the incident, ages six and one.
