Post Tandav Controversy, I&B To Set Guidelines For OTT Platforms Jan 31, 2021, 16:18 IST Following the controversy and chaos caused by the recently released political series, ‘Tandav,’ the Information & Broadcasting Ministry was confirmed to be planning certain guidelines for all OTT platforms. Information and Broadcasting Union Minister Prakash Javadekar announced a while ago that these guidelines for all the OTT platforms will be released soon. He said that the ministry had received a lot of complaints and many web series are under fire. The minister explained that these online series and movies do not have any rules or act regulating the content. The platforms freely go about making the shows. But now the ministry will come up with necessary guidelines that these OTT platforms will have to follow.

Govt to start regulating content available on OTT platforms soon, says Prakash Javadekar The Ministry of Information and broadcasting will be issuing guidelines for OTT platforms in view of the rising number of complaints coming in against the content being streamed on them. Union Minister Prakash Javadekar Union Minister Prakash Javadekar on January 31 said the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will soon release a set of guidelines to regulate content on Over-the-Top (OTT) streaming platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime in view of the rising number of complaints against them. Speaking to news agency ANI, Javadekar said: “We have received a lot of complaints against some serials available on OTT platforms. Films and serials released on OTT platforms and digital newspapers do not come under the purview of the Press Council Act, Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act or Censor Board. We will come up with some guidelines on it soon.”

The Minister also announced that full occupancy will be allowed in cinema halls from February 1 while following all COVID-related protocols. Content on OTT platforms has recently fuelled controversy, leading to public outcry and booking of makers of these programmes.
