A well-known Ocean City police officer and local kids’ sports coach has been charged with aggravated sexual assault of a juvenile, authorities said Wednesday.
Sergeant Tyrone Rolls, 50, of Marmora turned himself into the Cape May Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday where he was arrested and taken to the Cape May County Correctional Center.
Rolls is a fixture of the Ocean City community, having received a “key to the city” from Mayor Jay Gillian in 2017. Prosecutors said Rolls is currently still employed by the Ocean City Police Department. His employment status “will be determined in the coming days after the city receives the official charges,” a city spokesperson said, adding that he is currently on administrative leave.
