26-year-old Renews Man charged with Second-Degree Murder

Dec 18, 2020 5:26 PM A 26-year-old man is being held in custody pending a court appearance this coming Wednesday, December 23, on a charge of second-degree murder and a list of other alleged violent offences. Brandon Noftall was arrested on Friday after a 41-year-old man was killed in Renews. Noftall is now facing charges of second-degree murder, two counts of assault, assault with a weapon, attempting to strangle, choke or suffocate, and uttering threats. He made an initial appearance in court yesterday and was remanded to custody. The arrest came after a string of incidents on the Southern Shore overnight Thursday. Police had closed a portion of the Southern Shore highway for an extended period of time as they conducted their investigation.

Crews Respond to House and Vehicle Fires in Avondale

Dec 18, 2020 6:22 AM Firefighters from two departments fought a structural fire on the Avondale Access Road overnight. Avondale and Harbour Main were called out to the fire but the neighbouring department was first to leave the scene just before daybreak. The Avondale Volunteer Fire Department also fought a car fire in nearby Middle Gull Pond overnight. Earlier Story Firefighters are on the scene of a fire on the Avondale Access Road. The Avondale Volunteer Fire Department says it is a structural fire but they have no other information at this time. The blaze broke out overnight. VOCM will have more information as it becomes available.
