Hanwell re-elected to Cape school board

Incumbent Janis Hanwell was re-elected to the Cape Henlopen School District Board of Education May 11, defeating challenger Ashley Murray 3,108 to 1,212 in total votes to retain her five-year, at-large seat. Hanwell’s votes totaled 1,827 at Cape.

Question on election eligibility

May 10, 2021 As usual, this year’s election for the Cape Henlopen School District Board of Education captured some attention.  Candidates were identified, platforms were made public, and people threw their support behind one candidate or another.  This as it should be in an election campaign. Very interesting to me was the third paragraph of the article dealing with this matter in the May 7 edition of the Cape Gazette.  It read, “Eligible voters must be Delaware citizens age 18 and over who live in the Cape district.  Proof of identity and address, such as a Delaware driver’s license or ID card, or other document such as a recent utility bill or rent receipt, must be provided.”  Not an inkling of objection appeared regarding these voting requirements. This is as it should be. These protocols are fair; they are just; and they provide credibility for the election process.

No one more qualified than Hanwell for Cape seat

Nancy L. Schaefer May 6, 2021 This letter is in support of Janis Hanwell’s re-election to the Cape Henlopen School District Board of Education. I have known Janis for many years, and have witnessed her hard and smart work for the students and families of Cape Henlopen as a teacher, special education coordinator, principal, assistant superintendent, and the project manager of the construction of the high school. I have always said that she is one of the most intelligent and skilled people I have ever met. She is also very humble and cares about people, education and the community. She has been a wonderful part of the Cape Henlopen School District for the majority of her career and now continues to use her knowledge and expertise on the school board.

Hanwell should continue to serve on Cape board

Janet Andrelczyk April 16, 2021 I am writing to express my support for Janis Hanwell’s re-election to the Cape Henlopen School District Board of Education. Janis has ably served the Cape community for many years as an educator, school administrator and assistant superintendent, and continues to have its best interests at heart as a member of the school board.  I had the privilege of working with Janis for several years and know firsthand the unique skills she brings to the table; she has the knowledge, experience, enthusiasm, compassion and work ethic to continue to make Cape Henlopen the best district in the state.
