Roared on by 8,000 fans Thomas Tuchel s side dominated and were rewarded after the break with Antonio Rudiger bundling in their opener before Jorginho rolled home a penalty.
Timo Werner twice had goals ruled out before the break while Leicester, who looked flat after the FA Cup celebrations, offered little threat until Kelechi Iheanacho gave the visitors a lifeline with a cool finish in the 74th minute.
It was a nervy climax and Ayoze Perez wasted a glorious late chance to equalise but Chelsea clung on for a priceless win that moved them into third place on 67 points with one game remaining, meaning a win at Aston Villa on Sunday (Monday NZT) will guarantee them Champions League football next season.

Percy Tau was an unused substitute as Brighton & Hove Albion stunned Premier League champions Manchester City 3-2 on Tuesday evening.
Despite impressing as a second-half substitute against West Ham United, Tau once again started on the bench against City.
It took the champions just two minutes to go ahead when Ilkay Gundogan got out at the back-post to nod a surging cross from Riyad Mahrez beyond goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.
However, their bright start was overshadowed by a tenth minute red card to Joao Cancelo who was deemed to have denied Danny Welbeck a clear scoring opportunity on the cusp of the area.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola resisted the temptation to lay into the match officials, other than a sarcastic comment about the lack of help they get from referees - after Joao Cancelo was sent off, Ilkay Gundogan injured by what looked like a reckless high challenge, and Gabriel Jesus denied a late penalty at Brighton.
