Manchester City kept their Carabao Cup defence firmly on track after easing past Arsenal with a 4-1 victory at the Emirates Stadium to book their place in the semi-finals.
Gabriel Jesus headed the visitors into an early lead in the third minute but Arsenal hit back against the run of play through Alexandre Lacazette (31).
However, the Gunners, who lost Gabriel Martinelli to injury just after half-time, were behind again in the 54th minute after goalkeeper Alex Runarsson let Riyad Mahrez s free-kick through his hands and into the net.
Phil Foden added City s third (59) with a deft finish, despite replays suggesting he had strayed offside, before Aymeric Laporte s header (73) rounded off proceedings for Pep Guardiola s side, who are now 18 games without a defeat in the League Cup as they bid to win the competition for a fourth straight time.
Pep Guardiola warns Arsenal not to make ‘big mistake’ by sacking Mikel Arteta

Pep Guardiola insists Arsenal would be making a “big mistake” if they decide to sack Mikel Arteta following yet another defeat.
The Gunners were outclassed by Guardiola’s Manchester City, who reached the Carabao Cup semi-finals with a comfortable 4-1 win at the Emirates Stadium.
Arteta has not seen his side win a domestic game since November 1 but he opted to make eight changes to the team that lost at Everton on Saturday and, while his former boss Guardiola made seven alterations of his own, the difference in the respective squads was clear for all to see.
From there on, City were merciless, as goals from Phil Foden and Aymeric Laporte wrapped up a comprehensive victory that leaves Pep Guardiola s side two wins away from a fourth consecutive Carabao Cup triumph. It s a disappointing night, Arteta said. We started the game and conceded after two minutes, a really soft goal. After that, in the moment we are in, and against this opponent, it is difficult. We got back in the game, started to grow and scored a really good goal and we had a spell of 25 minutes where we were the better team. After that, we conceded the second goal the way we did and against this level of opponent, they punish you and make life really difficult.
Arteta declares ‘crucial moment’ as rumours swirl over Arsenal future

Mikel Arteta admits Arsenal are entering “a crucial moment” as speculation over his future continues following yet another defeat.
Alexandre Lacazette had equalised against the run of play but other selections back-fired as Gabriel Martinelli hobbled off injured on his first start in over nine months and second-choice goalkeeper Alex Runarsson endured a night to forget.
A knee injury had kept Martinelli sidelined but – despite limping out of the game moments after the second-half began, following an earlier challenge from City goalkeeper Zack Steffen – the Brazilian is only expected to miss a few days.
