ANGOLA â Business and nonprofit organization leaders from across Steuben County gathered at Glendarin Hills Golf Club Friday evening for the 8th Annual Ebbie Awards presented by the Angola Area Chamber of Commerce.
Dubbed the âEbbie Awards,â the Excellence in Business Accolades acknowledge the professionals that set the bar in their respective categories, as determined by community member votes.
Chamber member businesses are nominated by their peers, earning them recognition and prestige for their great contributions to their customers, the community and the Chamber itself.
The banquet returned after a one-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic last year.
This yearâs awards banquet, held at the resort-style golf course, was sponsored by Cameron Memorial Hospital, which took home the honor of being recognized as the Best Business Contribution to the Community.
ANGOLA â The Steuben County Health Department should know today what direction it can follow with the suspension of the use of the Janssen, or Johnson & Johnson, COVID-19 vaccine that has been flagged because of rare blood clot reactions to the shot.
Steuben County had put its use of the vaccine on pause from Tuesday through Thursday while it awaited direction from the Indiana State Department of Health.
âWe are waiting to hear from the State of Indiana on recommendations going forward,â said Alicia Walsh, administrator for the Steuben County Health Department. âWe should have direction by Thursday if we are allowed to offer Johnson and Johnson to the community in the future.â
ANGOLA âIf youâre pregnant or nursing, yes, you can get a COVID-19 vaccination.
One of the questions that has surrounded the vaccines under emergency use authorization by the Food and Drug Administration is about fertility and if the vaccine can cause infertility in vaccine recipients.
And the answer is no, so say the American College of OB/GYN, the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Centers for Disease Control.
In agreement with each of these societies is Dr. Todd Rumsey of Cameron OB/GYN, Angola.
âIf the vaccine is offered, you should receive it,â said Rumsey. âThere have been zero ties to infertility and the vaccine.â
ANGOLA â The Steuben County Health Department is hosting a Saturday vaccine clinic for COVID-19, it was announced.
The clinic will be held from 12:30-7 p.m. this Saturday only. The Health Department uses the Moderna vaccine.
Health Department Administrator Alicia Walsh said the special clinic was being held for people who cannot make the typical clinic hours during the week. We re trying to offer hours for those that might be working or have other responsibilities in the week, Walsh said.
This is in addition to the clinic offered by Cameron Memorial Community Hospital, also at the Event Center. Cameron s hours are 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. Cameron offers the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine.
