When Silvia Tenezaca encounters obstacles thrown her way, she conquers them with grace.
She overcame a family tragedy and medical crisis, economic challenges, and a language barrier to complete her bachelor’s degree in nursing at Rutgers University‒Camden.
To escape poverty and a dearth of jobs in Ecuador, Tenezaca came to the United States in 2002 at the age of 21 to join family members in Brooklyn. Working at a dry cleaning business, she improved her English language skills by speaking to people at her job and by watching TV.
“My desire to attend college was stronger than any language barriers,” says Tenezaca, of Sicklerville.

Marcello Mazzola had a hat trick to lead the Philadelphia Union U17s to a 3-1 win over Camden County College in a friendly Saturday afternoon at the Power Training Complex in Chester.
Mazzola scored an impressive goal with his chest off a cross from Ryan Lau, hit a low liner from distance and had a tap-in to complete the hat trick.
Playing their second game in as many days, Camden County mounted a late comeback and cut it to 3-1 on a penalty kick converted by Lautaro Berisso. The penalty was for a handball on the line that also reduced the Union U17s to 10 men. They were forced to do a lot of defending late but goalkeeper Ian Turnbull did well to turn away a number of chances for the visitors.

Camden County Community College hosts drive-thru graduation celebration
FOX 29 s Marcus Espinoza has more on a drive-thru celebration for graduates of Camden County Community College.
CAMDEN, N.J. - Hundreds of Camden County College graduates packed into cars on Sunday morning and convoyed through the campus as part of a mobile drive-thru graduation celebration.
Proud graduates hung out the windows and doors of vehicles decorated with balloons, streamers and signs as the motorcade snaked past cheerful crowds of staff and faculty. As things have loosened up a little bit we wanted to give our students something where they can celebrate, be back on campus, kind of be together as best we can under these difficult circumstances, President Donald A. Borden said.
But to get from 50 to 70 percent, the state and its southern region will need to convince hesitant residents to roll up their sleeves. And so far, that is proving to be difficult.
South Jersey’s largest vaccination sites are trying to draw people in by making the process, a couple months ago an exercise in frantic scrolling and refreshing to find even one appointment, more convenient than it has been since vaccinations started in December.
All three South Jersey mega sites and the Camden County College location, which administers as many daily doses as a mega site, have opened walk-in appointments within the past two weeks. It is now possible to just drive up to a site, walk in, take your shot and walk back out in minutes.
