CAMDEN Camden and Rockport firefighters, Camden Hills State Park rangers, volunteers from Coastal Mountain Rescue team and ambulance crews from North East Mobile Health Services came to the aid of hikers Friday and Saturday, July 23 and 24, when both suffered ankle injuries and needed a lift down the mountains.
CAMDEN A hiker visiting from New York state was struck with debilitating pain near the highest point on Megunticook Mountain June 11, resulting in rescue teams hiking up trails to carry him out. The call for help came in mid-afternoon through Knox.

Earlier this week, Camden Fire Chief Chris Farley, Rockland Fire Chief Chris Whytock and Rockport Fire Chief Jason Peasley met to discuss ways to increase public awareness about fire prevention efforts in our community.
“We are collectively saddened by the recent fires throughout Maine that resulted in the loss of four people, one of whom was a member of our local community,” they said, in a joint March 3 news release. “As we mourn these losses, we need to remember that it is up to every one of us to prevent these types of events from happening again.

A small fire at a Mountain Street Camden home was quickly contained early in the morning, Jan. 31.
CAMDEN Dry towels tossed over halogen lights in a closet smoldered and set off a small fire this morning, Feb. 1, at a Mountain Street home in Camden.
Just after 7 a..m. a resident of a Mountain Street home called Knox Regional Communications Center, reporting smoke in the house, which drew a mutual aid response from Hope, Lincolnville, Rockport and Union.
As the outdoor temperature hovered around 7 degrees Fahrenheit, Camden Asst. Fire Chief Andrew Lowe and Firefighter Matt Heath entered the home, and doused the second floor closet fire with water from a five-gallon water extinguisher.
