Moderna COVID vaccine ships out starting Sunday as feds assure smooth rollout
Updated Dec 20, 2020;
The second COVID-19 vaccine approved in the U.S. ships out starting Sunday, with government officials assuring the public a smooth rollout to boost vaccine distribution during a spiking pandemic that’s infected 17 million Americans and killed more than 316,000.
Shots of the vaccine developed by Cambridge-based Moderna Inc. and the National Institutes of Health will be administered beginning Monday, the Associated Press reported. The government plans to ship 8 million doses through the week. The distribution comes three days after the Food and Drug Administration authorized an emergency rollout, and about a week after a vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech arrived at health care facilities nationwide.
