I would of lost my job and everything. I wouldn t have a house to live in, Wannacey said. Wannacey is one of the many non-violent, low-risk offenders that come through the Cambridge Municipal and receive community service to offset jail sentences or fines.   According to Wannacey, he was able to keep his job and learn time management skills as well.

COVID-19 meant less cases, less revenue for municipal court last year Additional funding coming from city coffers The Daily Jeffersonian Cambridge Municipal Court faced a number of challenges last year due to COVID-19, according to Magistrate Teresa Liston.   That included keeping the court moving forward and ensuring the operations were conducted safely. But the biggest challenge, according to Liston, was a substantial revenue reduction due to fewer case filings or new cases. Case filings in the court were reduced by more than 50% from 2019. In 2019, the court heard 12,442 and only 6,355 new case filings in 2020. That led to a revenue reduction 13 percent. Less collection of outstanding fines and costs also contributed to loss of funding.

Four bound over to Common Pleas Court after waiving hearings The Daily Jeffersonian A California man facing two felony charges following an incident on Southgate Parkway last month waived his right to a preliminary hearing this week in the Cambridge Municipal Court. Charges of receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony, and aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, filed against Tyler J. Riggleman, 32, were bound over to the Guernsey County Common Pleas Court. Riggleman was one of four individuals whose cases were recently bound over to the higher court. He also faces three misdemeanor offenses including a charge for allegedly lying to Cambridge police about his identity.

The Daily Jeffersonian A California man who reportedly assumed his brother s identity when he was arrested by city police officers is facing a new charge filed in the Cambridge Municipal Court. Tyler J. Riggleman, 32, faces a first-degree misdemeanor charge of falsification for allegedly lying to officers and identifying himself as Dylin C. Riggleman. Riggleman was originially charged with single counts of receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony; aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony; possession of drugs, a second-degree misdemeanor; and criminal damaging, a second-degree misdemeanor. During a hearing this week, Riggleman plead not guilty to all charges and bond was set at $75,000 with no 10% allowed on the felony charges.

Joint effort underway to update outdoor sculpture database The Daily Jeffersonian Cleveland State University and the Ohio Outdoor Sculpture database have joined forces to catalog outdoor sculptures across the state including several here in Guernsey County. Local sculptures include Lady Justice, Civil War Soldiers and Robert T. Secret monuments on the Guernsey County Courthouse grounds in downtown Cambridge, Hopalong Cassidy at the Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center in Cambridge, World Trade Center monument at the Cambridge Municipal Court and Ohio Coal Miners in Byesville. Newark resident Zach Baker, a library and information science major at Kent State University, has been tasked with compiling an inventory of the sculptures in Guernsey, Coshocton, Holmes, Knox, Muskingum and Tuscarawas counties that are not part of the current database.
