About $2 million in federal money will help repair storm-damaged levee in Terrebonne

About $2 million in federal money will help repair storm-damaged levee in Terrebonne The Courier A nearly $2 million federal grant will help pay for repairs to a Terrebonne Parish levee that was overtopped during Hurricane Barry in 2019. The Federal Emergency Management Agency has approved the $1.99 million grant, U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., said Friday. The money will help cover repair costs for the Montegut levee, which was damaged during the storm in July 2019.  The money will reimburse the Terrebonne Levee District for 75% of the total $2.6 million in repair costs.  Hurricane Barry eroded portions of Terrebonne Parish’s levee system, posing a serious threat,” Cassidy said in a news release. “This funding makes needed repairs to keep residents and businesses safe from flooding.”

Terrebonne Government Tower to reopen first floor Monday for first time since COVID-19 pandemic started

Now that the COVID-19 pandemic is beginning to level out, I want to make sure that my staff does everything possible to make all business transactions with the citizens of our great parish as easy and convenient as possible, Parish President Gordy Dove said in a news release. Residents who visit will need to wear face masks, stay six feet away from others and use hand sanitizers, requirements that remain in place under the state s COVID-19 measures. The entrances on Barrow Street and on Gabasse Street will be open. The one on Main Street will remain closed. Residents can still use the drive-through windows on the first floor of the tower s parking lot on Gabasse Street to pick up registration forms for all TPR sports programs or to pay the following:

Biden administration invites industry groups, environmentalists to air views on oil plans

President Joe Biden s administration will gather industry, government and environmental officials later this month to discuss the federal government s plans for the future of oil drilling on U.S. lands and waters. Information gleaned at the March 25 forum, which will be streamed live online, will help inform an interim report on the administration s review of federal oil and gas policies set for release in early summer, the Interior Department said Tuesday. “The federal oil and gas program is not serving the American public well. It’s time to take a close look at how to best manage our nation’s natural resources with current and future generations in mind,” said Laura Daniel-Davis, the agency s principal deputy assistant secretary for Land and Minerals Management.

Houma-Thibodaux business groups pen letter to Biden opposing his oil restrictions

Seventeen business and industry groups from the Houma-Thibodaux area and across Louisiana sent a letter today to President Joe Biden asking him to rescind his newly imposed restrictions on new oil leases in the Gulf of Mexico. Biden enacted a 60-day ban Jan. 21 on new oil and gas drilling permits and leases for federal lands and waters, including the Gulf. He followed Jan. 27 with an indefinite ban on new leases in the Gulf and on federal lands. Officials say the pause is necessary as the administration works to control climate change and its resulting pollution, rising seas and other harmful effects on the nation and world.
