The officer had tested positive for SARS-CoV-2
The Muvattupuzha police on Friday slapped a case against Muvattupuzha Revenue Divisional Officer A.P. Kiran under the Kerala Epidemic Diseases Ordinance for alleged quarantine violation.
The move was in the wake of a complaint that Mr. Kiran had turned up at the office despite testing positive for SARS-COV-2. The petition said that he had undergone the test on Thursday and should have remained in quarantine till the result was out.
However, Mr. Kiran on his part claimed that he was tested only on Friday and termed the petition politically motivated. “I was at office only for an hour and left as soon as the result was known. I was returning officer for Sunday’s counting and had to hand over charge, besides signing next month’s salary bills,” he said. Mr. Kiran claimed that he was asymptomatic.
48-hour lockdown-like curbs conclude
Over 13,000 COVID-19 violations were detected in the capital district during the course of the 48-hour-long weekend curbs that concluded on Sunday.
While the public largely cooperated with the government’s call to minimise travel and venture outdoors only for essential services, several violations of the pandemic norms were also flagged in various parts of the district.
Considerable public movement was seen on Saturday when Plus two students, accompanied by their parents, attended the Higher Secondary examinations in their schools. However, the situation was much different on Sunday with most staying indoors for most part of the day.

The function was held at a church in containment zone
Church officials and relatives of a couple whose wedding was held on Sunday in violation of norms at a church in a containment zone at Vadakkekara in the city suburbs were arrested under the provisions of the Kerala Epidemic Diseases Ordinance 2021 and relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The Vadakkekara police on Sunday registered a case after over 100 persons attended the wedding at the church as opposed to the condition that only 20 persons could attend such functions in containment zones. The Ernakulam Rural police said strict action would be initiated against those who organise such events in violation of the pandemic protocol and without registering them on the COVID e-jagrtha portal.

Senior citizens complain of not being able to register themselves with portal
Confusion continued at least in some vaccination centres in Kozhikode early on Thursday when people reached there unaware of the new rule that only those who have registered with the COWIN portal could get the jab.
Sources said that many of those who came to the vaccination centres early in the morning had their second dose due. They had hoped to get spot registration done and did not bother about checking the portal. Some of them claimed that they had not seen or read about the new rules. When complaints were raised, health officials were seen quickly pasting posters announcing the information on the premises.
