After a year of relative peace, one of the few positive side-effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, mass shootings are once again erupting across the nation with the predictable result that Democratic Party lawmakers are calling for gun control.
That is as predictable as the sunrise, but is gun control the answer to America s problem with violence? The answer, as I see it, is a resounding No. Here is why. Violent people are the problem. The gun is nothing more than a tool. Guns don t shoot people all by themselves. It takes a human being pulling the trigger.
But here is the problem: You can t control human beings. We already have plenty of laws to control human behavior. The truth is, laws only work for those willing to follow them. For the unlawful, the law means nothing. Thus, gun control legislation is largely political grandstanding.
