Ballymena Showgrounds: Ambitious masterplan to turn venue into a multifaceted, 6,500-capacity venue Darren Fullerton
Ambitious plans to turn the Ballymena Showgrounds into a 6,500-capacity stadium and a potential centre of excellence for women s football would be an “enormous asset” for the sport in Northern Ireland.
That s the view of newly-elected Deputy Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Council Matthew Armstrong who hopes Stormont funding can be secured for the multifaceted project.
The master plan, which went before council earlier this week and will now go out to public consultation, includes the erection of two new stands behind either goal.
This would increase the capacity of the Showgrounds - home of Ballymena United - to 6,585 and enhance the stadium’s ability to host higher-profile fixtures in the future.
