Son Of Murdered Portage Couple Charged With Their Homicide
The Kalamazoo County Prosecutor has authorized charges for the son and lone suspect in a Portage couple s disappearance in subsequent deaths.
The Office of the Kalamazoo County announced the authorization of charges against 27-year-old Nicholas Alexander Johnson for the homicide of his parents Gary and Laura Johnson.
Nicholas Johnson will be charged with two counts of open murder, two counts of possessing a firearm while committing a felony, and one count of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. If convicted, he could face up to life in prison.

LANSING – Justice has finally been served in a 2013 sexual assault of a minor through the work of the Kalamazoo County Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) team, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeffrey Getting announced today.
Roosevelt Johnson, 64, of Memphis, Tennessee, and formerly of Kalamazoo, was sentenced on Monday to serve up to 35 years in prison by Judge Pamela Lightvoet in Kalamazoo County 9th Circuit Court. Johnson pleaded no contest Dec. 18 to first-degree criminal sexual conduct as a habitual offender, fourth offense.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. â A Tennessee man has been sentenced to prison in connection with a 2013 sexual assault case in Kalamazoo, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nesselâs office announced Thursday.
Roosevelt Johnson, 64, of Memphis and formerly of Kalamazoo, was sentenced on Monday to serve up to 35 years in prison.
He pleaded no contest Dec. 28 to first-degree criminal sexual conduct as a habitual offender, fourth offense.
The crime, which had not been reported, was discovered in 2016 through the Kalamazoo County Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI), as it allowed for the testing of the victimâs kit.

CO Jared Ferguson was in northern Dickinson County when he was waved down by a civilian in a motor vehicle. The citizen was concerned over a bear that he thought was sick and needed to be put down. CO Ferguson explained that the bear was lethargic because his hibernation was interrupted, most likely due to the logging operation taking place. CO Ferguson advised him to leave the bear alone and it will find a new place to sleep the winter away.
CO Josh Boudreaux was patrolling northwestern Marquette County when he encountered some hunters set up over large bait piles. The pair admitted they knew they had way too much bait out, which was exceeding 10 gallons each. Violations such as riding double on an ORV, no helmet on ORV, no hunting license on person, no hunter orange in blind, and no name on blind were addressed and citations were issued for litter, cutting shooting lanes on state land, and exceeding the bait limit.
