There have been a number of calls to Midwest News again today, from people experiencing long delays at Mayo University Hospital, where they are waiting to receive their Covid 19 vaccines.
Vaccines for frontline health care workers are being administered, by appointment, in the Castlebar hospital again today.
Listeners who have contacted the newsroom say that they have been experiencing waiting times of between 90 minutes and 2 hours standing in a line with others, as they await their jabs.
Some listeners are also questioning why the hospital is being used as a location for the administration of the vaccines, bringing them, (health care workers from the community), into the busy hospital.

In advance of International Women’s Day on Monday next, An Post has issued a new stamp celebrating the renowned 19
th century Irish nationalist and feminist writer, Jane, Lady Wilde (1821-1896) whose pen-name was ‘Speranza’.
She came to prominence in famine-stricken Ireland in 1848 when she wrote an unsigned revolutionary editorial in ‘The Nation’, the organ of the Young Ireland movement which prompted the suppression of the newspaper.
Unveiling the stamp, Debbie Byrne, Managing Director of An Post Retail said that Jane Lady Wilde was a women who epitomised the meaning of #ChoosetoChallenge, the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day. “She was a tireless and outspoken campaigner for women’s rights, equality and other causes.”

The need for a pedestrian crossing on the busy old Turlough Rd in Castlebar and the problem of speed in the nearby Oaks Housing Estate have been highlighted by local councillor Ger Deere
At this week’s monthly meeting of the Castlebar Municipal District the councillor explained that since the opening of a new Filling station and convenience shop in the area, there is an increased volume of pedestrians crossing the Turlough road. There is a population of several hundred residents in the immediate vicinity.He says there is a serious issue with speed in the area and he believes a pedestrian crossing is urgently required.
