Public appeals were made for information on 38-year old Joseph Langan  - a native of Lacken - who was missing from the Wellpark Road area of Galway since 26th January. Over 85s, as promised, will all receive Covid Vaccine in 3 week timeframe, according to Mayo deputy Published: Wednesday, 17 February 2021 12:17 The government’s three week window to have all over 85 year olds in the community receive their first Covid 19 vaccination is on track and will be achieved, according to Mayo Fianna Fail deputy Dara Calleary. Midwest News is aware of many over 85 year olds in this region that have been waiting by the phone since Monday of this week, for a call from their GP, giving them a time for their vaccination, but so far that call has not come. We are also aware of many GPs in the region who say they can’t make that call, because they have not, as yet, secured the vaccines.

Green light for new Aldi store in Ballina Aldi Stores (Ireland) Ltd has secured the green light to develop a supermarket in Ballina. Conditional planning permission for the development has been secured from Mayo County Council. Colin Breslin, Regional Managing Director, Aldi Ireland, told Midwest News today that they will be bringing 30 new permanent jobs to Ballina and they expect  to open the new facility in 2022. The new store will also create 50 jobs during the construction phase.  The store will be constructed in Aldi’s award-winning Project Fresh design and feature 80 car parking spaces, EV-charging stations and a bicycle stand unit.
