Company to develop electric motors for boats in Achill secures research assistance Published: Tuesday, 16 February 2021 11:54 A company that intends to set up its manufacturing base on  Achill Island later this year is to collaborate with a UCD research team on the development of highly efficient electric motors for the marine industry. I-Form, the Science Fund Ireland Research Centre for Advanced Manufacturing, has agreed a collaboration with w1Da to accelerate the development and production of eco-friendly electric marine motors. The development is worth €225,000 to w1DA, that intends working with Udaras na Gaeltachta setting up its manufacturing facility in Bunacurry, and will focus on 3D printing of high-strength, low-weight components that are key to the advancement of next generation electric motors.

Udaras welcomes IPSOS/MRBI decision to establish a presence in gteic@Béal an Mhuirthead Published: Tuesday, 16 February 2021 11:58 Údarás na Gaeltachta has welcomed the decision by leading market research company IPSOS/MRBI to establish a presence in gteic@Béal an Mhuirthead. Two full time jobs will be created in Belmullet initially and IPSOS has announced that they are looking to recruit 30 people for a mixture of part- and full-time positions from the area. A primary call centre is currently being fitted in gteic@Béal an Mhuirthead for the company but it is envisaged that future IPSOS employees will be able to use any of the new gteic hubs being developed at the moment, namely gteic@An Eachléim and gteic@An Corrán Buí, as the company develops and when COVID-19 restrictions ease.

Mayo GP calls for clarity on when vaccine supplies will be delivered Published: Tuesday, 16 February 2021 12:15 A Belmullet GP is calling for clarity on when practices across Mayo will get Covid-19 vaccine supplies. Dr Fergal Ruane says the uncertainty means his Belmullet practice and practices across the region can’t plan clinics, staffing levels, or set vaccine appointments. The HSE are due to notify practices of when they will receive deliveries by tomorrow. The North Mayo doctor revealed that the practices across the Erris region are deemed to be large, meaning his patients won’t have to travel to a vaccination centre.
