South Mayo road reopens to traffic following fatal crash Published: Tuesday, 16 March 2021 08:24
The R334 has reopened to traffic following a fatal road traffic collision in South Mayo yesterday.
A man in his late 70 s died in the two-vehicle collision between Cross and The Neale.
Shortly before 12 noon, a car and a lorry were involved in a crash, and the driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
The lorry driver was taken to Mayo University Hospital for medical assessment.
The road reopened to traffic last night after a forensic examination was completed at the scene.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision involving a motorcycle that occurred near Castlebar yesterday evening.
A male motorcyclist in his 20s was seriously injured when his bike left the road at Glenisland on the R 312 at approximately 7pm.
He was taken from the scene by ambulance to University Hospital Mayo.
The scene was attended by local Gardaí, National Ambulance Service and local Fire Services.
Traffic diversions are currently in place and an examination of the scene will be carried out by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators this morning.
6th class students in Breaffy NS Castlebar glad to be back in school today
Primary schools nationwide have fully re-opened today.
Third to sixth class pupils went back to their classrooms for the first time this year.
Fifth year students have also returned to second level classrooms today, as part of the Government s second phase of reopening.

A virtual talk on the life of Fr Michael O Flanagan will form part of a special St Patrick s Day event, highlighting tourism in West Roscommon.
Galway West TD Eamon O Cuiv - grandson of former President & Taoiseach Eamon de Valera - will speak at the event and reflect on the life and legacy of Fr O Flanagan, a native of Cloonfower, Castlerea who was a scholar, inventor and republican leader.
The event will also showcase the amenities along the Suck Valley Way, which forms part of the Beara Breffni Way - Ireland s longest hiking trail from Cork to Leitrim.
